PRO-BIO Trading company Ltd. is based in Staré Město pod Sněžníkem in the beautiful mountain area of Králický Sněžník. The company arose from humble beginnings in 1992 and today it employs about 50 people. The company focuses on the purchase, processing and distribution of organic products. Nowadays it is the biggest processor of organic products in the Czech Republic. The assortment contains almost 600 products in organic quality.

The purchase of products from organic farmers

The growing of organic products follows the Act. No. 242/2000 on Ecological Farming set by the Czech Ministry of Agriculture according to European Union rules (Council Regulation (EEC) No. 2092/91). One of its principles is non-genetic manipulation. Farms are inspected by the independent control organisation KEZ o.p.s. PRO-BIO provides contract growing of particular products, supply of seeds, consultation services and after-crop processing (drying, cleaning, storage, etc.) for organic farmers.

The main principles of food-processing in PRO-BIO

The company makes very careful use of modern technology to ensure a high quality of processed products and to retain valuable nutrients such as vitamins and minerals. The technical equipment used facilitates drying, cleaning, storage and subsequent processing of products. The equipment is adjusted to preserve the high nutritional value of the products and their natural character. For example buckwheat is not husked thermally, but mechanically to retain its light colour and important constituents.

The company uses whole-grain milling to produce wholemeal PRO-BIO flour. The main principle of processing the organic products is an absolute absence of synthetic substances, chemical preservatives, artificial sweeteners, colourings, flavourings and other additives. It allows the use of only safe, healthy and natural substances. These organic products have a high intrinsic quality.

PRO-BIO organic food distribution

Particular products are delivered to other processors in wholesale packaging or directly to shops in retail packaging using modern wrapping machinery. PRO-BIO supplies health-food shops, supermarkets with organic departments, hypermarket chains and a few other wholesale distributors.

PRO BIO has already developed its own delivery network with regular dates of orders and deliveries. The biggest part of production is consumed on the domestic market. The surplus from organic farmers is successfully exported.

Organic food from the town “Staré Město“

Nowadays PRO-BIO brings about 50 kinds of organic food to their final form. The company has its own capacities for processing grain, high quality grain and seed cleaning, wholemeal flour milling, buckwheat and spelt hulling, mixing different mixtures, etc.

The company also co-operates with other contractors who supply PRO-BIO with some organic products or who require PRO-BIO raw materials for their own production (dough producers, bakeries, roasted coffee or baked müsli producers, etc.). The whole PRO-BIO assortment contains about 600 kinds of organic products.
